Setting up zones in Australia

Post by kinghaigy »

I'm not sure how zones are set up, but I'd love to set up turf in my own city, Adelaide, South Australia. We currently don't have any zones in Australia and turf isn't on the Australian android market, but I'd love to play! I got to play it when I lived in Sweden in 2011. It was good fun :D

I don't know if the orignal developer looks at the boards, but if he does, I was the Australian guy who spoke to him after the 2011 DHS round of turf who came second in the hour long comp. :D

We remember you, nice to see you again:)

We now have a different and bigger organization who manage zones. However i believe we will try to expand within europe at the moment. We found it better to expand to adjacent countries first.

Contact Blabert on this forum if you have your own great ideas on why your country should come soon...and how you could manage the quite intense marketing needed!

Haha! Awesome :D Nice to hear from you guys again!

I saw the map and saw that it had started spreading beyond Europe - so I started getting excited :D I'm not sure what kind of work is required in setting up the zones and running the competitions, but I see good potentiel for our university to make a club that could maintain it in South Australia at least. As far as promoting it goes, as the app is free, there isn't much that stops people from at least trying it. They just need to know it exists :P

So as far as managing it, I'm not sure I could do it alone! When I get back to university, I'll talk with some other people and see if there is interest in managing it. Uni for me starts again at the end of february.

I make no promises right now, this message is more of an expression of interest :D

Managing will probably mostly involve spreading the word...thats the hard part, to get the first 100 players in a new area to get the ball rolling.

But checking out the interest is a first step as you say. keep in touch:)

Any more thoughts on this - I'm about to move to Sydney and there's some great locations for zones. There's a decent orienteering scene, and lots of runners so I'd have thought there would be interest. (Understand you've been doing nearby countries, but nowhere is near Oz :( )

There actually has been some thoughts, and contact with people in Sydney. The plan is to start up in a small scale, in Sydney to begin with. Now time frame for it at the moment though, but probably during the (European) spring :-)
