Turf Forum

Having previously suggested a set of zones to Dulwich and Crystal Palace which has been well-used (and also seeing how other big developments eg the Croydon and Olympic Park sets have improved London turfing), could I suggest building on this and creating a good set of zones between Dulwich Park and Biggin Hill (from zonename ParkGateHouse to zone name BigginHill).

This would build on Dulwich & Crystal Palace, but also, has good grounds that this is a popular, well-established cycling destination, and that it would help out the number of local turfers in Beckenham area (eg south of zonename BeckenhamZone) crying out for more zones. As it stands, BigginHill is a long distance from other zones, and requiring a pretty challenging ride, isn't really on the turfmap as it should be.

A good route for zones would be along that outlined on https://www.letsride.co.uk/rides/dulwic ... -sort-of-1 and it would be great if they could be fairly dense in at least some parts of the route from the outset. (with the option to fill in later on as it gets used). Thanks!

Hi could I bump this and generally flag London zonesmaking? I know I and others have been suggesting zones, (including in the areas I've highlighted) and our turfing warrants them, but the lack of zones, especially away from the tourist routes is dis-motivating and we're now seeing people (including ones who were really into it and were working toward going for the metal medals) dropping out, eg last round we had around 50 turfers, this round we're back to 30, and on scores last round the top 5 in our region were about 2million points, it's barely 750000 this round. A quirk of the London game is we often dont leave gps on (signal is very often bad; there are security concerns; but mostly because we have to travel so very far to do a turf round we have to conserve battery, etc) so maybe that's why we've been overlooked?

I've had some guy in my league in a remote bit of sweden who'd done literally nothing all round suddenly start turfing in the last week, and because he has dozens of zones on his doorstep, he's taken 5 in the distance before I'd get to my first, (and so on for the rest of a session) and so with a tiny fraction of the effort is likely get promoted. It means that rather than being fun, turf is just stressful and unrewarding. If turf is to be sustainable in the UK and especially London rather than just a tourist route we can't just have a sprinkle of zones.

Hello Northstar, we are aware of the zone situation in London and have launched a longer initiative to get you more decent and coherent turf loops and plug large gaps. Unfortunately we are still somewhat understaffed and we all do this on a voluntary basis as time allows. Therefore this initiative will run for quite some time. It's not a small city and it takes time to find good public spaces. The app suggestions help greatly, but we need to spend some time finding the nuggets as some people place suggestions in their private gardens or in the middle of roads. Hope you can have patience a wee bit more.
